Anti-Houthi civilian reaction in Yemen: Women and children take to the streets
October 13, 2026
Public reaction against the control of Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen is growing. In footage rapidly spreading on social media, men, women, and children are seen taking to the streets together and chanting angry slogans against the Houthis. The shared footage reflects widespread public anger against the militias' dominance over Yemen.
In the footage, civilians gathered on dusty roads in a rural area move around vehicles and clearly show their reaction. Scenes featuring women in the forefront particularly draw attention. The footage, announced in the post with the phrase "The footage that shook Yemen," reveals how deep a discontent the oppression and control applied by Houthi militias have created among the civilian population.
This footage emerged in the shadow of clashes that have re-escalated in Yemen in recent weeks. The Saudi-backed Yemeni government announced on October 4 the launch of the "Yemen Dawn" operation, aiming to retake Houthi-controlled territory, including the capital Sana'a. Meanwhile, Houthi militias made significant gains in September, particularly along the western coast and the Bab el-Mandeb line. The direct anti-militia reaction of the civilian population during this process shows that the conflict carries a dimension related not only to a military struggle but also to the will of the people.
As FreeNews.tr, we continue to make the voice of the oppressed civilian population in Yemen heard. The sectarian policies and efforts of Houthi militias to establish control through violence result in Muslims arming against each other both within Yemen and in the region. The increase in civilian reactions deepens the legitimacy crisis of the militia rule.
