December 8 Rose Like the Sun Over Syria

Some dates take their place in a nation's memory as the day hope began anew. In my eyes, December 8 was such a day for Syria. A beginning where people carrying years of pain could look to the future again, think about returning to their homeland, and rebuilding their lives…
Following Turkish Airlines launching flights to Damascus, I was one of the first to travel to Damascus in this new era. Setting out on this journey with great excitement, I wanted to see Syria firsthand, listen to its people, and understand the responsibilities brought by this new era.
My first stop was Damascus…
With its ancient streets, bazaars, and the Umayyad Mosque, Damascus is a city that makes one feel the depth of history. Seeing the flow of life in the center was encouraging. Meanwhile, the heavy scars left by the war served as a reminder of how much effort reconstruction will require.
What affected me most was the people's desire to build a future once again. Repairing their homes, reopening their businesses, returning to production, preparing a safe life for their children… At the foundation of major transformations lie, in fact, these very human expectations.
After Damascus, I came to Aleppo.
Aleppo has a special meaning for me. A deeply rooted city of production, trade, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship… Its bazaars and workshops hold a precious accumulation of knowledge passed down from generation to generation. The revitalisation of this accumulation is of great importance in terms of increasing employment, enabling families to make a living, and reviving city life.
This journey stretching from Damascus to Aleppo also shaped my perspective on our work in Syria. In every meeting, I sought an answer to this question:
"What need can we respond to here, and which cooperation can we transform into tangible value?"
This understanding lies at the center of the work we carry out today under the umbrella of Sultaniye Group. We want to develop trust-based relations between Turkey and Syria, and contribute to mutually beneficial cooperation ranging from tourism to trade, and from production to reconstruction.
I believe that strong bonds can be established between Turkey's production power, technical accumulation, and entrepreneurial experience, and Syria's hardworking people and deep-rooted commercial culture. To achieve this, it is necessary to be on the ground, work with the right counterparts, and support given promises with concrete steps.
Syria has a long road ahead of it that requires labor, patience, and determination. On this road, I care about listening to people, building trust, and standing behind the responsibilities we undertake.
I wish that the sun born on December 8 illuminates the streets of Damascus, the workshops of Aleppo, and the tomorrows of all of Syria.
May Almighty God grant the Syrian people lasting peace, tranquility, and a prosperous future. May the brotherhood between Turkey and Syria grow even stronger with the values we produce together.
In your opinion, which area should be prioritized in Syria's recovery?
